Post Wisdom Teeth Removal Foods

Hey there guys!!

I hope everyone got through the week successfully and you are able to have some down time over break. Today I got my wisdom teeth out around twelve in the afternoon and my mouth is still numb and sort of hurts which makes it really hard to eat. You are also only allowed to have cold foods for the first twenty four hours which makes the food you can eat even more limited.

When I first tried to drink water after my procedure I could not feel it going into my mouth and therefore was not able to swallow it. But, as the night has gone on and the numbing had gone done a little bit, the one thing I have been able to eat is a smoothie my mom got me from emerald city (you are not allowed to use a straw so I have to eat it with a spoon).

Because I have had such a hard time figuring out what to eat after my operation I figured I would give you all some ideas so that if you ever are in the same situation as me in the future you know what you can eat!

Foods to eat after getting wisdom teeth out:

  • Smoothies (they cannot have seeds in them though, so avoid fruits like strawberries and raspberries)
  • Milkshakes or ice cream
  • Apple sauce
  • Jell-o
  • Pudding
  • Yogurt
  • Frozen Yogurt
  • Mousse (not something I would have thought of but it is another option!)

Once I am able to eat warm foods it will make things a little bit less limited, so I am looking forward to that!

Greek Yogurt

Hey there everyone!

After talking with a friend this morning about what she had for breakfast, I was inspired to write about yogurt. She has yogurt with granola and fruit every morning and it reminded me of when my mom introduced me to greek yogurt last year.

I had seen people eating greek yogurt in the past but I could never get myself to try it because it has such a strong smell. Then, my mom started a diet and she began to eat Dannon Light and Fit Vanilla Greek Yogurt, so I tried it too. My first reaction was that it tasted like vanilla ice cream (but it is a lot better for you than ice cream). It was sweet and creamy and filling, too. The best part is that it only has 7 grams of sugar, and 80 calories, but still has 12 grams of protein.

To make it even better you can add some fresh fruit. I like to add strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries when I eat this yogurt. Sometimes I also add granola. My dad loves using this yogurt in smoothies and it really is a good addition. It makes them sweet without taking away from the flavor of the fruit being used. It also makes the smoothies have a very smooth texture, unlike any other smoothie I have had before.

There are many different flavors of this Dannon Light and Fit Yogurt that all have about the same nutritional facts. These flavors are strawberry cheesecake (which I was very hesitant to try but it honestly just tastes like gogurt!!), toasted coconut vanilla, strawberry, cherry, banana cream, key lime, blueberry, peach, Boston cream pie, raspberry chocolate, strawberry banana, salted caramel, blackberry, tiramisu, caramel apple pie, toasted marshmallow, raspberry, and plain. I have not tried many of these flavors, but I look forward to trying them!

Pasta

Hey guys!!

I hope your semester has started off well and if you are in new classes those are going well!

I have had first lunch since freshman year but this semester I have second lunch and it is actually so much different than first lunch. In some ways it makes the day go by faster but I am always way more hungry. I always end up eating my food in third period because I have PE fourth period.

Although, today I had to run errands at lunch so I did not have the chance to eat very much. So, when I got home from school I was extremely hungry. Whenever I am hungry and I want something good but relatively fast I always make pasta with butter and Parmesan. If you are unsure of how to make noodles with butter and Parmesan, all you have to do is boil water, add whatever type of noodles you want to the boiling water, cook them for 10-15 minutes based off what the box says, drain the water from the noodles when they are done cooking, then add the butter and Parmesan at the end. It is as easy as that! It is not super fancy or healthy but every once in a while it is a good option.

Another pasta option that I devour every single time I have it is fettuccine alfredo. Last year we learned how to make it in my foods class and it was delicious. I have made it at home a few times since then and I love it. It is super filling so you definitely do not need to much of it. Also, it is quite bad for you but that is why it is a fun thing to have like once every two months.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

I hope finals went well for everyone and that you can all relax a little bit now!! I know what a stressful time finals can be but it was really nice for me to go home early and take a nap. But after I woke up I decided to destress a little more and make my favorite chocolate chip cookies.

Usually, mom makes these but I decided I would take on the role this time and do it myself. I know I always say things are my favorite but these chocolate chip cookies are still the best chocolate chip cookies I have had to this day. My mom had made them for my brothers and I since we were little kids and she got the recipe from toll house.

All my brother’s friends absolutely love coming over because of these chocolate chip cookies. So, maybe you guys will like them as much as my brother’s friends and me!!

Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.)
  •  Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375° F.

  2. Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.

  3. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

It’s National Popcorn Day!!

Hey everybody!

If you did not know, it is National Popcorn Day!! I do not know about you guys, but I sure love popcorn! Some people, like my friend treehugger, might spend this day going to the movies and scarfing down buckets of buttery popcorn (that is not very environmentally friendly, treehugger). And others may not even know about this wonderful day!

My favorite thing about today is that I can eat as much popcorn as I want without feeling bad about it. There are all different types of popcorn to enjoy: caramel corn, buttery popcorn, cheddar popcorn, white cheddar popcorn, and kettle corn are a few of them. At some point in my life I have had all these different types of popcorn and none of them disappointed me.

Although, one thing I would say is in the past I would grab a bag of microwavable popcorn, heat it up, and enjoy. Other times, I would pop popcorn kernels on the stove. Popping them yourself is much healthier than eating microwavable popcorn but when I was a kid I did not care much about eating healthy so the buttery taste of the microwavable popcorn was worth it. As I got older I realized that eating this type of popcorn was not in my best interest and that is when I began to make popcorn on the stove. But, I even found a type of popcorn that I liked better than popping my own and that was much more convenient than making my own: Skinny Pop Popcorn. You can buy this pre-popped popcorn at any grocery store and it is a great, low calorie snack.

Banana Bread

Hello everyone!

This week you guys are in for an even better treat. Every once in a while you do not eat your bananas fast enough and they begin to turn brown. You can do one of two things with them: freeze them or throw them away. At my house, we like to freeze them and later make banana bread and banana bread muffins out of the old bananas. While this might sound kind of weird, it is actually delicious. My mom makes the best banana bread. I eat a muffin in the morning when I am running off to school, I eat one in my lunch, and sometimes I even at them when I get home from school also.

Because I think it is a better idea to put use to your old bananas, I am going to share the recipe with you all. I also just think that everyone deserves to try one of these amazing banana bread muffins in their lifetime.

Banana Bread Recipe:

Ingredients-

3 large bananas (mashed)

½ cup of butter

1 cup of brown sugar

¼ cup of sour cream

2 eggs

1 tsp. Vanilla

1 ½ cup flour

¼ tsp salt

1 tsp baking soda

1 ½ tsp baking powder

Directions-

  1. Set oven to 365°
  2. Cream butter and sugar
  3. Add sour cream, eggs, mashed bananas, and vanilla to the the creamed butter and sugar
  4. Mix dry ingredients and add them to the banana mixture
  5. Pour batter into greased muffin tins (or line with muffin cups)
  6. Bake for 20-30 minutes until muffins are golden brown and spring back to the touch

New Treats

Hey there everyone!

It is good to be back after a week off! And boy do I have a treat for you! And when I say treat, I mean an indulging guilt free treat. I know that in the past I have talked about my love for sweets, specifically my soda habits. I was beginning to drink soda more and more and knew I needed to make a change. One of my favorite things about soda is the carbonation. So, I set out on a mission to find a drink that was better for me but could also meet my carbonation cravings.

I came across a pepsi product called lemon lemon sparkling lemonade. The lemonade only contains fifteen grams of sugar and seventy calories. The cans are twelve ounces, so the same as a soda. I feel way better about drinking this lemonade rather than soda because there is not nearly as much sugar but it is still sweet and carbonated. The is also a blackberry flavor and a peach flavor that I have not tried, but I am they are delicious also.

One more healthy snack I discovered over break are popchips the sea salt potato chip kind are my favorite. When eating regular potato chips I always start feeling guilty after a while because I know they are not good for me but when eating these popchips I never feel any guilt because they do not have nearly as many calories or as much fat. They are a good addition to lunches or just an on the go snack.

Local Food Destinations

Hey everyone!

I hope you all are enjoying your break so far. It is nice to finally have some days off! Also, no school means more free time to make food or to go get food. I know that I get bored just hanging out at home all the time so making cookies, cake, banana bread, or brownies is always a good way to fill time.

One year during Christmas break I made no-bake cake pops with my cousin and they did not turn out how we imagined. I do not recommend making no-bake cake pops; they are way too dense and you will not want to eat very many of them.

Besides making food at home, going out with friends to get food at a restaurant is always a go-to hangout idea. I can never think of anything to do so I usually settle for going out. When I finally think that the hard decisions are over, they are not. Because then we have to choose where we actually want to go out to. One of my friends and I favorite places is Hello Robin in Seattle. It is kind of far but the cookies and ice cream do not disappoint (especially not the birthday cake cookies).

But because I know that sometimes it is hard to think of a place to go I am going to give everyone a few ideas so that when they cannot think of somewhere to eat with their friends they can have a list of places to choose from.

Holiday Treats

Hello everyone!

The holidays are approaching and I could not be more excited. As the weather has been getting colder, I have been drinking more hot chocolate to stay warm. It is also that time of the year where “we elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup.”

 

I love this time of the year and all the fun activities it entails. One of my favorite traditions is that every year my family and I (cousins included) have a Christmas cookie decorating contest. It always gets super intense and there is some fierce competition. But, honestly, my favorite part is eating the cookies afterwards. I love being creative and coming up with fancy designs but in the end I’m going to eat the cookies anyway so I never spend too much time on mine.

 

While the sugar cookies we decorate are quite addicting one of my favorite things about the holiday season is the brownie trifle my mom makes for dessert. It is amazing.

 

Brownie Trifle

 

Ingredients:

For the brownie mix:
1 (20 ounce) package brownie mix
2 eggs
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 tablespoon water
For the pudding mix:
1 (3.5 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup water
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
For the trifle:
1 (16 ounce) container frozen whipped topping thawed

Directions:

1.Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease the bottom of a 9-inch by 9-inch pan.
2. In a large bowl, combine brownie mix, eggs, oil, and water. Pour into greased pan and bake until done, about 40 minutes. Cool. Cut into 1-inch squares.
3. In a large bowl, combine the pudding mix, vanilla, water, and sweetened condensed milk. Mix until smooth, then fold in 8 ounces of whipped topping.

  1. In a trifle bowl or glass serving dish, place half of the brownies, half of the pudding mixture and 4 ounces of remaining whipped topping. Repeat layers. Garnish with crumbled candy canes.
  2. Refrigerate 2 hours before serving.

Pizza

Hey everyone!

It is that time of the year where winter break is approaching and teachers are trying to cram in as much work as possible. Personally, I love having a couple weeks off, but the weeks before break are always really stressful for me. And I do not work well with stress, so I tend to eat a lot and the food I eat is usually not that great for me.

One thing I really enjoy eating is the stereotypical “favorite food”: pizza. I will eat pizza in almost any sort whether that means pizza rolls, pizza pockets, pizza bagels, mini pizza bagels, thick crust pizza, deep dish pizza, or thin crust pizza. I love all different styles of pizza. My go to pizza is just cheese and pepperoni, but when I go to Mod I always get the “Mad Dog” which has sausage and pepperoni on it as toppings (my brothers got me hooked on this kind).

While on the topic of Mod, it is definitely one of my favorite places to get pizza from. But, when I am not just eating pizza by myself or with my family and we need a lot of pizza I enjoy getting it from Domino’s, Costco, or Papa John’s. If I am in Bellevue sometimes I like to get Pagliaccis; it is always a good experience.

Although the way I enjoy pizza is not always the healthiest, there is a way to make it healthier. If you go to Mod, you can choose as many toppings as you would like without any extra cost. So, you can cover your pizza in nutritious toppings to make it a healthier option.

Healthy Snacks

As you can tell from my last few posts, I really like sweets. Sometimes it is dangerous because I could eat them nonstop!! But, because I play sports I know the importance of having a balanced diet. It is so tempting to just eat junk all the time because if I am being honest, junk food usually tastes better and often times does not take as long to make or grab out of the pantry. Although, in order to stay healthy I make lists of healthy snack options and try to eat things off of it instead of caving into chips and candy. This helps me keeps me accountable and make sure that I’m getting the nutrition I need. I’m going to share some healthy snack ideas because I know that I am always looking for new ones to add to my list and you might be to!

  • Apples and peanut butter
  • Organic applesauce (no added sugar)
  • Air popped popcorn
  • Greek yogurt
  • Smoothies
  • Eggs
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Oranges
  • Grapes (frozen)
  • Almonds
  • Cashews
  • Pineapple
  • Pressed kind bars
  • Skinny pop
  • Clif bars (the kids ones are some of my favorites)
  • Air popped potato chips

 

Besides eating healthy foods, the liquids you put into your body are important, too. I, admittedly, love drinking a soda very now and then but it is vital that we are always drinking water. In many drinks there is an excess of added sugars that we sometimes do not even notice. So, if possible, it is definitely best to stick with water; it will make a huge difference in the way you feel.

At the end of the day, it is not a big deal if our diets get off track a little bit. It happens to all of us. Especially me!! It is really hard to start healthy eating habits if they are not ingrained in your lifestyle. But, trying our best to slowly improve our diets will not hurt.

Pumpkin Bars

Hey everyone! 

I hope you all had an enjoyable Thanksgiving and are having a relaxing few days off. As many people do on Thanksgiving, I definitely ate too much. But it was all worth it and I do not have any regrets. I wish I could say that I was a good daughter and helped with preparing the food, but this year I was lame and I did not. My mom and aunt did a wonderful job though and outdid themselves once again. Even though I filled myself up at dinner, I still had some space left for dessert. I have to say that pumpkin flavored things are not usually my favorite but the pumpkin bars my mom made this year were delicious. They really did hit the spot. So, naturally, I have to share so you all can maybe, like the snickerdoodles, make them for yourselves one day.  

Pumpkin Bars–

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour 
  • 1 ½ cups sugar 
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder 
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda 
  • ¼ teaspoon salt 
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves 
  • 4 beaten eggs 
  • 1 16-ounce can pumpkin  
  • 1 cup cooking oil 
  • Cream Cheese Frosting 

Directions:  

  1. In a large mixing bowl stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda, salt, and cloves. Stir in the eggs, pumpkin, and oil till combined. Spread batter in an ungreased 15x10x1-inch pan. 
  2. Bake in a 350° oven 25 to 30 minutes or till a wooden toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 2 hours on a wire rack. Spread cream cheese frosting on top. Cut into bars and enjoy!

Cookie Crazy

I am back!

This past weekend I decided to make snickerdoodles and I was super excited about them. I am not sure where I went wrong, but they did not end up how I thought they would. Although, when they do turn out they are my favorite cookies. In the past when I have made them I create an ice cream sandwich out of them; I take on cookie and place a scoop of ice cream on it and then I put another cookie on top of the ice cream on the other side. I am going to share this recipe with you all so that you can make and enjoy them!

Snickerdoodles–

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 egg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions:

  1. In a medium mixing bowl beat the butter with an electric mixer for 30 seconds. Add the 1 cup of sugar, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Beat till combined, scraping the sides of the bowl. Beat in the egg and vanilla till combined. Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in the remaining flour. Cover the dough and place in the refrigerator for an hour.
  2. Combine the 2 tablespoons sugar and the cinnamon. Shape the dough into 1-inch balls. Roll the balls in sugar and cinnamon mixture to coat. Place balls 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a 375° oven for 10 to 11 minutes or until edges are golden. When done baking, place the cookies on a wire rack and let them cool.

My First Post

Hi all,

I want to introduce myself so that you can get to know me just a little bit better. I have three brothers, two that are in college and one that is two and half years younger than me. Family is an important part of my life, along with sports. I have played soccer throughout my life and beginning in high school I started running cross country and track. One of my hobbies is cooking and baking so, my blog is going to be about food. I am going to talk about food I cook and bake along with other things about food in general. I took foods last year and learned a lot about the different foods from all over the world. I also learned how to cook quite a few different meals and treats.

For my first blog, I am going to talk about the foods I consistently make. One of my all-time favorites are rice krispie treats. I love rice krispie treats because they are super easy and quick to make. While I do realize they are not that good for you, they always end up hitting the spot. Most of the times I make them they are gone within a day because my brothers devour them. I also often find myself making eggs and bacon. When I am in a rush or have to make a quick, simple meal, eggs are my go to. I can make them in about five minutes and they are a relatively healthy option.
